This is an abstract interpretation of Cornell's Swan Lake. Like swans, skiing is very graceful and beautiful. The way the swan moves so elegant and freely can compare to how perfect skiers look flying through the air. Like birds, skiers are able to sore through sky and perform maneuvers and land back on the ground so graciously. I would like to go back and change the skier in the stripped shirt to a skier flying through the air.
I think maybe you can make a connection... swanlake is ballet and skiing like this is also acrobatic and like a ballet.
ReplyDeleteI would make changes to your essay to connect the two.

I like how you took skiing and compared it to swans on a lake. I , being a snowboarder, can really relate to how graceful it is on the mountain in comparison to a swan on a lake. I never would have connected the two on my own. One thing that might be cool to add to your collage would looking for a picture of a skier going across water or cropping a picture of a swan and putting it on skis. May sound a lil lame but it would give the viewer more information about the swan aspect of swan lake. Even putting swans in the background flying or something would make the skiers comparison to a graceful swan more apperant. Nice colloge either way.
ReplyDeleteI think some work with Photoshop filters to change the colors to explore tones of blue.
ReplyDeleteI also think that the multiple skiers distract from the single image of Cornell's swan. The phrase "Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner" comes to mind as well. Skiing is a solitary sport.
As the "Lonely at the Top" because the swan is the most beautiful creature and alone.
